Episode 1: Cold As Alaska

Filmmaker Payne Lindsey sets out to produce a true-crime documentary and discovers an intriguing unsolved missing persons case from Ocilla, Georgia. We are introduced to high school teacher Tara Grinstead, who was last seen on October 22, 2005, and the basic facts of her disappearance. Payne meets and interviews Dr. Maurice Godwin, a private forensic detective who worked on the case. Payne also chats with his grandma, who lives near Ocilla and might have a lead for him.

Episode 2: White Rabbits

Payne Lindsey travels to Ocilla and meets with Dusty Vassey, reporter for the local newspaper. He also talks with his grandma’s friend Melba, who has a tip that may or may not mean something. Maurice Godwin warns Payne against chasing after “white rabbits,” leads that send you running in circles but don’t lead anywhere. Payne also interviews Noah Griffin, a friend of Tara’s from the beauty pageant circuit.

Episode 3: The Alibi

Payne and Maurice discuss the prime piece of evidence, the blue latex glove found outside Tara’s house with some kind of DNA evidence on it. Was it dropped before or after family friend Heath Dykes came to the house to check on Tara? Payne talks to Anthony Vickers, a young man who was arrested for trying to break in to Tara’s house, and also investigates the alibi of Marcus Harper, Tara’s ex-boyfriend. He then interviews dog trainer Tracey Underwood, whose cadaver dogs have searched hundreds of acres in Irwin County, hunting for Tara’s scent.

Episode 4: Snapdragon Road

Payne has a rather creepy experience collecting soil samples from a body-sized mound of dirt in a crawlspace underneath a house in Ocilla. He then examines Tara’s emotional state in the days and weeks before her disappearance. Finally, Payne interviews former fire marshal Vernon Singley regarding a suspicious house fire on Snapdragon Road, at the one site where cadaver dogs had possibly identified Tara’s scent.

Payne and his partner Donald Albright discuss the possible meaning of the blue latex glove, and Payne requests the 911 dispatch logs from October 22-23, 2005, as he continues to investigate Marcus Harper’s alibi. Lastly, Maurice tells Payne about another lead, a young man who died by suicide in 2010 and left a note saying he knew what had happened to Tara.

Episode 7: Phineas Gage

Payne dives into the circumstances surrounding the 2010 suicide of a former student of Tara’s, including a chat with Dusty Vassey, who knew the young man’s brother. Did he really know something about what happened to her, or was his behavior the result of a head injury sustained in a car accident? The nature of Tara’s relationship with Heath Dykes as well as Marcus Harper’s alibi are further discussed, including an examination of the 911 dispatch logs from the night of Tara’s disappearance.

Everyone Is A Suspect: Presented by Up and Vanished and Murder on the Orient Express

Up and Vanished and Murder on the Orient Express present a podcast exclusive, "Everyone Is a Suspect." True crime often inspires the most successful fictional crime stories. When told by a visionary novelist like Dame Agatha Christie, dubbed "The Queen of Crime," these fictional stories can become larger than life and even more compelling than truth. "Everyone Is a Suspect" dives deeper into both fact and fiction, taking a closer look at the “Crime of the Century," the 1932 Lindbergh Baby kidnapping, which, along with Christie’s own experiences as a passenger on the Orient express, inspired her to write the 1934 novel Murder on the Orient Express. In true Up and Vanished fashion, host Payne Lindsey will reexamine the Lindbergh kidnapping case, and even retrace Christie’s steps by embarking on his own trip aboard the Orient Express. In preparation for the November 10th premiere of Murder on the Orient Express, the podcast will also include interview episodes titled, "The Suspects.” Each episode will focus on the upcoming film, featuring a collection of cast interviews, discussing the MOTOE novel and film, the parallels between true crime and fiction, podcasting, and more.
